SLIE/PERC continues engaging various heads of institutions and MDAs on the new Continuous Professional Development (CPD) framework. On Thursday, 16th September 2021, the SLIE/PERC CPD team, met with the management of UNOPS, to introduce the new CPD framework, and conduct a training needs survey for their engineering employees, at the UNOPS office, Aberdeen. In attendance were, Ing Louise Chaytor, CPD team lead, graduate engineers, Thomas Michael Salankole, and Abdul Kaadiru Kallon, CPD Team volunteers, Ing. Nick Gardner, Country Manager, Engineer Ezekiel Musili, Project Manager, and Ing Emmanuel Koroma, Project Engineer, UNOPS.

On Friday, 10th September 2021, representatives from SLIE engaged the management of Road Maintenance Fund Administration (RMFA), on the new SLIE/PERC CPD framework and the training needs of their engineering employees, at the Maritime Building, Government Wharf, Freetown. The meeting was attended by Ing Louise Chaytor, CPD lead, Ing Barton Cole, CPD Committee member, Ing Modupe Williams, Thomas Michael Salankole and Abdul Kaadiru Kallon, graduate engineers, and Mr. Bashiru Sheriff, Deputy CEO, Ing Mariwan Kallon, Ing. Sama Banya, Ing. Yasin Bangura of RMFA

The Sierra Leone Institution of Engineers (SLIE), led by Ing. Louise Chaytor, team lead Continuous Professional Development, Abdul- Kaadiru Kallon and Thomas Michael Salankole, Graduate Engineers, on Wednesday the 8th September 2021 held a meeting with EDSA at the head office in Murray Town. The meeting was attended by Ing. James Rogers, Acting Director-General, Ing. Chernor Sulaiman Jalloh, Technical Director, and Mr. Peter Kamuray, Human Resource Director. Ing. Chaytor explained the purpose of the meeting which was to introduce the Continuous Professional Development Framework developed by PERC and SLIE to upgrade the Engineering Training and practice standard in Sierra Leone.

As part of SLIE’s ongoing engagements with various heads of institutions, firms, companies, and MDAs, on the new SLIE/PERC Continuous Professional Development (CPD) framework, on Thursday, 9th September, 2021, two graduate engineers, Thomas Michael Salankole and Abdul Kaadiru Kallon, both volunteering on the SLIE/PERC CPD framework, met with the management of FLS Power Group and the managing coordinator, of Nubia Construction Company Limited. Individual engagement was conducted at the office premises of both companies, and the main reason for both meetings was to introduce the new SLIE/PERC CPD framework, and encourage the management of both companies to work together with SLIE/PERC in implementing this framework.

On Wednesday 8th September 2021, SLIE visited the Sierra Leone Maritime Administration at the Maritime building, Government Wharf . The SLIE team led by Ing. Louise Chaytor, Thomas Michael Salankole, and Abdul Kaadiru Kallon Graduate Engineers introduced the Continuous Professional Development Framework developed by SLIE/PERC, and details of its importance to SLMA representatives. In attendance were, Ms. Christiana Roberts, acting Human Resources Manager, Ing. Ansumana Massaquoi, Eric Blake, Mohamed Deen-Conteh Search and Rescue Coordinator, Mohamed Osman Kamara, Safety Inspector and Mohamed Sidiki Sesay Inspector.

The purpose of the meeting was to introduce to the management of EGTC, the new SLIE/PERC CPD framework and conduct a training needs survey for their engineering employees. In attendance were, Ing Louise Chaytor, SLIE/PERC CPD lead, Thomas Michael Salankole and Abdul Kaadiru Kallon, Graduate Engineer Volunteers SLIE,Ing. Milton Gegbai, Director General, Ing Munda Lewis, Deputy Director General, Ing. Harold Reider, Thermal Generation Manager, and Ing. Sinneh A.S. Koroma, Hydropower Generation Manager, EGTC.

On Tuesday 7th September, 2021, a team from SLIE/PERC led by Ing Louise Chaytor, lead on CPD, Thomas Michael Salankole and Abdul Kaadiru Kallon, Graduate Engineers, met with the management of Petroleum Directorate at the Petroleum Building conference room, Kingtom. Petroleum Directorate, an institution directly under the office of the President, is responsible to regulate companies that explore and develop oil and gas in Sierra Leone. The meeting was attended by Engineer Foday Mansaray, Director General, Sallieu Jalloh, Economist, and Ahmed Tejan Bah, Technical Head, Petroleum Directorate. The main reason for this ‘meeting was to introduce the new Continuous Professional Development framework and encourage management of Petroleum Directorate to work together with SLIE/PERC in upgrading engineering standards in Sierra Leone. .

On Monday 6, September 2021, a team consisting of the CPD Committee of the SLIE/PERC met virtually with the CEO of AI Networks. The purpose of the meeting was to engage AI Networks on their membership of SLIE and inform the company of the new Continuous Professional Development (CPD) Framework. The SLIE team consisted of Ing. Louise Chaytor, team Lead for the CPD Committee, Ing. Abdul Rahman Conteh, Conference Committee chair, Thomas Salankole and Abdul Kaadiru Kallon, graduate engineers. They were later joined by the President of SLIE, Ing. Trudy Morgan. The CEO of AI Networks, Ing. Alvin Emerson Thomas said that he had two companies and was unsure which one was registered with SLIE/ PERC. However, he said that he endeavours to maintain his company’s membership of SLIE/PERC. He said the company had two engineers who are not yet registered with SLIE and 25 technicians. Ing Chaytor shared the purpose of the meeting and gave a short explanation of the Continuous Professional Development (CPD) Framework, including the CPD process and her hope that CPD would be incorporated into their performance appraisal system. Ing Emerson Thomas said he had no problem with this but had not yet seen the CPD Framework to review it. He promised to ensure that his engineers are registered with SLIE/PERC.
