The Professonal Engineering Regulatory Coucil ACT 2022
The Professional Engineering Regulatory Council held one-day workshop on the PERC ACT 2022
πŸ“† Dates: May 16th, 2024
πŸ“ Venue: Bank of Sierra Leone Complex,Kingtom, Freetown.

The Professional Engineering Regulatory Council was a body empowered by an act of parliament of 1990 to regulate and control the practice of engineering in Sierra Leone. However, due to the civil war in the nineties, much was not done and starting 2009 it was resolved that the act needed amendment for effective regulation of engineering practice. This resulted in the ccurrent amended version with a change of name to Professional Engineering Regulatory Council to emphasise the regulatory aspect of its functions.

Since the revision of this Act, the regulation and registration process of professional engineers and institutions improved. However, challenges are still being experienced with respect to cooperation of stakeholders including some MDA'S of Government, Institutions, Companies/Firms, as well as individuals providing engineering services in Sierra Leone.

The purpose of this workshop is to engage stakeholders to generally explain why all Engineers and Engineering Establishments regionally and internationally must register with their professional regulatory bodies such as PERC in Sierra Leone. Additional regulations such as Code of Conduct which will be developed to effectively enforce the ACT together with penalties for breaches, are also presented.

We are here to support the Engineering Society of Liberia for their 6th Annual Conference themed "Advancing Infrastructure: Resilience and Innovation".

During the opening ceremony on February 8th, our President, Ing. Trudy Morgan, conveyed our excitement in joining this esteemed gathering. Ing. Prof. Redwood Sawyerr, our former President and the current President of the West African Federation of Engineering Organisations (WAFEO), shared insightful plans about WAFEO's initiatives in harmonising curriculum and standards across universities and institutions in West Africa. It was indeed a day filled with camaraderie and invaluable learning opportunities. Let's continue to inspire and support each other in advancing engineering excellence across our region!
