The Sierra Leone Institution of Engineers continues to support the Coronavirus Response of the government in 3 phases.

Phase 1 response

Sierra Leonean Engineers both resident and in the diaspora supported by the Sierra Leone Institution of Engineers, in response to the COVID-19 measures, have donated food and sanitary items to the Junior staff of the faculty of Engineering at Fourah Bay College and the Institution’s Secretariat. In a brief opening statement the SLIE President Ing Prof Jonas Redwood Sawyerr noted that the donation was a collaboration between registered Engineers of the Institution and non registered Engineers, to show the Junior staff that they are appreciated for their work especially as they have had to work at the campus during the current health challenges.

Ing Horatio Max Gorvie, the coordinator for the project, buttressed the SLIE President’s comments and thanked the staff for their hard work throughout the years. He said the Project was a 3 part project in response to the covid-19 pandemic and encouraged all Engineers to work in a collaborative manner to ensure our goals are achieved. He noted that the next phase of the project involves building a triage centre at one of the proposed facilities earmarked by the EOC for isolation of COVID-19 patients. He noted that Engineers are currently working closely with the Engineering team of the EOC to get the second phase of the project underway.

Ing Trudy Morgan, the Institution’s Vice President and President elect, in presenting the items, thanked the staff for their relentless effort in supporting FBC Engineering faculty and SLIE to deliver on their mandates and prayed that the items will go a long way to support the recipient’s families during the lockdown and help them to adhere to the safety measures put in place by the Government of Sierra Leone. She encouraged them stay safe and to guide their children to do Engineering when the trying times are overA representative of the Engineering faculty Junior staff Mr Francis Peacock-Cole of the Electrical and Electronics Department thanked all Engineers (registered and non registered) for this collaborative effort and expressed delight that their hard work over the years is appreciated. The following items were distributed to each of the Junior staff 1 bag of rice, 1 small bag of onions, 1L containers of oil, Bars of soap, Bottles of rubbing alcohol, and 1dozen masks.
