On Monday 9th January 2017, the Sierra Leone Institution of Engineers in collaboration with the Ministry of Energy hosted a one-day workshop on Challenges in Energy Security. The workshop featured a panel of experienced engineers in the Energy sector. The session was chaired by Ing. Alex Kamara, former head of the National Power Authority. Serveral presentations were made highlighting the issues affecting effective delivery of power to the nation. A prominent engineer from Ghana, who was the former Minister of Energy in Ghana gave a presentation on how Ghana overcame challenges to energy security since the building of the Akosombo Dam. In attendance was the Sierra Leone Minister of Energy, Hon. Henry Macauley, the Director General of Electricity Distribution and Supply Authority (EDSA) and the Director General of Electricity Generation and Transmission Corporation (EGTC).
